A Message from Our Founder
Like many successful companies, Sunset started with an idea for greater efficiency.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, my family owned and operated a small paper products company known as Williams Paper Company, which was started by my grandfather in 1861 and is considered one of the oldest businesses still operating in St. Louis today.
While working in the family business, I saw an opportunity to use the company trucks out bound from St. Louis and bring back paper goods for the company. Eventually, 80% of our company’s trucks were used as for hire instead of hauling our own products, and I had a full time career in the transportation industry.
In 1989, I began Sunset Transportation and recruited brokers that specialized in services such as LTL and diverse product hauling. As the business grew, we automated our freight audit and payment processes, enabling us to help customers improve their cost per transaction.
Today, we now have a freight audit and payment division that processes more than 100 million dollars in freight bills a year, as well as a client-friendly transportation management system that allows our customers the ability to see every transaction. We have also developed internal transaction software that ties into an online quoting and tracking system. As a result of our customers’ satisfaction, we’ve been able to grow revenues 90% in the past 5 years.
A lot has changed since the beginning of Sunset, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I am proud to share that we still do business with some of our first customers. This says a lot about Sunset and our relationship with our customers. We enjoy listening to our customers’ needs and helping them grow their business by providing transportation solutions.
