FMCSA 5 Year Plan to Save Lives

The FMCSA has launched a strategic plan for 2012-2016 designed to strengthen partnerships at the Federal, State and Local-level to reduce or eliminate crashes, injuries, and fatalities through education, regulations, enforcement, research, and innovative technology. This 5 year plan aims to “save lives by striving towards a crash-free and fully accountable CMV transportation life-cycle.” There are four strategic focus areas to help achieve their objective. They include CMV “Safety 1st” Culture, Exponential Safety Power, Comprehensive Data Utilization & Leveraging Technology, and One FMCSA. To view the strategic plan or highlights, click here.

Trade Mission to Brazil

Sunset is very excited to announce that our CEO Jim Williams will be attending a trade mission in Brazil this week lead by Gov. Jay Nixon. Brazil is Missouri’s 10th-largest export market, and the goal of this trade mission is to further expand Missouri’s economy through job creation and the export of Missouri-made goods. Current Highway Funding Extended

Today, Congress voted to extend current highway funding which was being threatened by a 90-day legislative stopgap. This means, that work can continue on any highway, bridge, and transit projects currently underway. By a vote of 266 to 158, the House passed this vote with nearly 40 Democrats joining mostly Republicans on the issue. Read more at WSJ, CNN, and NYTimes.

New Hire Jill Walsh Joins Marketing Team, Improves Customer & Employee Engagement

ST. LOUIS, MO—Sunset Transportation, a third-party logistics company (3PL), recently appointed Jill Walsh to Agent & Communications Support at the company’s headquarters office in St. Louis, Mo. The company, headquartered in St. Louis, is expanding marketing and communications to improve its agent program and overall brand awareness as it continues a trajectory of double-digit growth.

“Jill’s communication and marketing skills will help us take our external and internal communications to the next level. As we grow, we are committed to engaging our customers and employees so we can continue to offer innovative solutions and greater efficiencies,” said Jim Williams, founder and CEO of Sunset Transportation.

Walsh will be expanding Sunset’s marketing team; her focus will be increasing the company’s social media presence and brand awareness. She will also assist Sunset’s external Agent offices across the country in day-to-day operations. Walsh has a Bachelors degree in Marketing from the University of Missouri.

In her new role, Walsh will help Sunset continue to expand as a regional leader in transportation third-party logistics (3PL) services management. The company recently moved into larger headquarters and was named as a Central Midwest Finalist in the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
