Scouting for Food

“Scouting for Food” is considered to be the largest on day food drive in the country. Every November Sunset Transportation helps the Boy Scouts by organizing the logistics for the food drive. Over 50 tractor trailers loads full and what is expected to be over 2.2 million pounds of food gets picked up from various fire stations in St. Louis and transferred to the St. Louis Area Food Bank, where it will then be distributed to those in need (more than 400 food pantries). Sunset became involved in Scouting for Food in 2004 when the U.S. Army who used to handle the endeavor was deployed to Iraq.

About Scouting for Food: From its inception in 1985, the program has grown to become America’s largest single-day food drive.  The council, which includes St. Louis City, 27 counties in eastern Missouri and 10 counties in Southern Illinois, has collected more than 29 million pounds of food, with the help of scouts, parents, and volunteers. About the St. Louis Area Food bank: The St. Louis Area Food bank distributes nearly 12.6 million pounds of food each year to 450-plus food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and emergency feeding programs throughout 14 counties in eastern Missouri and 12 counties in southwestern Illinois.  To learn more about the St. Louis Area Foodbank, visit www.stlfoodbank.org.

Testimonial

Just a quick note to let you know how AWESOME your staff is at Sunset Transportation. Yesterday I booked a load and within minutes I received the rate confirmation. Generally speaking, when dealing with brokers, it is very time consuming waiting on rate confirmations and getting things organized, but with your staff, it was minutes. I look forward and am anxious to build a relationship with your company in the future.

Linda Scott, FWF Logistics - Landstar

"At Sunset, I know my sales rep will work with me until we get something scheduled. I'm not worried that the truck won't show up!"
